This presentation from staff at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides a basic description of the opioid epidemic in terms of epidemiology, treatment approaches, and federal efforts to mitigate the crisis. It is designed to be an introduction for those who may not have a clinical or policy background in issues surrounding opioid use disorders and the associated public health crisis. The presentation will be conducted by federal staff who work on issues related to substance use disorder policy and who participate in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services efforts to alleviate the opioid epidemic.
